Join the City of Richmond's Parks & Rec and VCU Athletics for a volunteer tree care day as part of 804 Day. We will be weeding, mulching, and improving growing conditions for the baby trees in the "Mini Forest" at Roy West Park, located in the Northside. Come see this high-density reforestation project and 'No Mow' area, and help us continue cultivating this space as we turn "Turf-to-Trees".  Planted as part of the Cool The City campaign, these trees will not only help beautify the area and create habitat for birds and other local wildlife, but also help create a cooler microclimate in a neighborhood facing the urban heat island effect.

Tuesday, August 4, from 9 - 11 a.m.

Where?

Roy West Park, 4200 Piney Road, Richmond 23222.

Volunteer duties?

Volunteers will be assisting staff from Parks & Rec in some general tree care and landscaping. Duties will include hand weeding, mulching, and litter pickup. 

What should I bring?

Please wear comfortable clothes that can get muddy and closed-toe shoes. Please bring a refillable water bottle and a snack. You may also want to bring sunscreen and bug repellent. Tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own equipment if you prefer. Accompanied and supervised children are allowed (with a signed waiver), but please no pets!
